Weston’s Used Appliances opens in Long Beach

Volume 5: Issue 3 - 03/01/2010

The region has seen a profusion of new stores lately offering quality used merchandise, an apparently emerging trend spurred in part by the recession.

Now a new business in Long Beach offers like-new washers, dryers, ranges and other household equipment. It’s called Weston’s Used Appliances, located on Pacific Avenue South.

Dave and Gay Weston are the owners; they’ve lived in the area for 14 years, and previously owned a similar business in California before they moved to the area.

Dave Weston has years of experience locally in Oregon and Washington doing appliance repair for Sears, Quality Appliance, and other firms. Now he and his wife have

opened their own business.

"We fix all appliance brands and we sell used appliances," Gay Weston said. "Some of them are like new."

She said her husband travels to Portland to buy used equipment, then refurbishes units and gets them ready for sale.

There’s already been demand for their Peninsula inventory.

"Sometimes I sell things right off the truck," she said.

Most appliances are just a few years old, and Weston’s offers a 60-day warranty on purchases.

Weston said that while business isn’t booming yet, she thinks things will pick up as more people realize the store is open.

"We’ve been working at it now for awhile, and it’s fun," she said of entrepreneurship.

Dave Weston said he prefers dealing with used appliances because there’s a demand for them, and his specialty is equipment repair and maintenance.

He said calls for repairs are also up, as consumers seek to maintain their existing appliances rather than replace them.

You’ll find Weston Used Appliances across the street from McDonald’s in Long Beach, just south of the center of town.
