New York style hotdog stand moves into Astoria

Volume 4: Issue 8 - 08/01/2009

By Lexie Banks

Hot dogs, German brats, hot links, Portuguese linguica, sliders, soft drinks and chips are all in abundance at Wilson’s Meal on a Bun. Owners Branden and Sandra Wilson wheel the cart into its "home" at 1248 Marine Dr., in the parking lot of Jerry’s Auto in Astoria, at least three days a week.

The couple moved to Astoria last year from California, where they operated hot dog stands. They also have other experience working in the restaurant industry – Branden worked as the manager of a Denny’s and Sandra has extensive kitchen experience.

Branden Wilson spoke with CRBJ about the stand.

"My wife and I enjoy the outdoors and enjoy dealing with people," Wilson said. "What better way to meet people than to offer them something to eat?"

The location was obvious for the Wilsons, who enjoy being right on Marine Drive with plenty of foot traffic.

"Since it’s a one-way road, everyone has to go past us," Wilson said. "We get a lot of people who stop by just because they saw us while driving."

The owners are looking to open additional locations soon, and are also available to cater parties and other events.

Wilson’s Meal on a Bun is open Friday, Saturday and Monday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call (503) 298-3067 during business hours, or (971) 238-0747 any time.
