Papa Jack's moves to new Warrenton storefront

Papa Jack’s Farm and Pet is moving to a new location in Warrenton this month. The family business, which sells feed and other supplies for companion animals, livestock and other domestic critters, had been operating at its location on SE Marlin Ave, across from Les Schwab, for the past five years.

Papa Jack’s owner Mike Scholerman said the current economy made it necessary for the company to downsize.

"We think by being a little smaller we can weather the current downturn," he said.

The company’s new location is on E. Harbor Drive near downtown Warrenton. The change means the store will leave its current 15,000 sq. ft. facility and move into a 3,900 sq. ft. space.

Scholerman said customers can feel reassured about availability of products. In most cases, "they can get the exact same things they’re getting now," he said.

A few items will drop off their inventory, such as fencing, fertilizer and other chemicals.

"We’re going to concentrate on pets and livestock, and wild bird supplies," he said, of the company’s top sellers.

"It’s important for us as a family- owned business to keep Papa Jack’s afloat," he said. "We’ve got good loyal customers, and we want to be a valuable part of the community and be able to contribute. That part is important to us."

Scholerman said a tough economy made the larger space impractical and costly. So when their lease at the Marlin Ave. site came up for renewal, he decided it was time for a strategic change.

Customers can find Papa Jack’s at 737 E. Harbor Drive as of the beginning of June. The store’s phone number will stay the same: (503) 861-3139.
