Local businesses receive training funds

Volume 4: Issue 5 - 05/01/2009

By CRBJ
MTC Management and Training Corporation recently announced training grant awards to two area businesses.

MTC is part of a network of public and private partners whose mission is to stimulate job growth by connecting firms with available resources. Part of MTC’s role is to distribute government funding for employee training through the Employer Workforce Training Fund.

Julie Gassner is with MTC Works, an MTC workforce development program based in Astoria that serves Clatsop, Columbia and Tillamook Counties.

She said EWTF funds are federal monies funneled through the state, and then allocated to MTC for distribution.

For recipients, what it means is free training.

One of the recent awards was made to Four Winds Canvas, an Astoria-based company. The firm was awarded $5,900 to send two employees to the Marine Canvas Training Institute.

Another company to receive the training funds award was Tillamook Country Smoker in Bay City. The company was awarded nearly $18,000 to train 22 employees in a variety of training opportunities, including supervisory, production and PNW Clean Water Association training.

For more information about EWTF funds, call Julie Gassner at MTC Works, (503) 325-1156 or email jgassner@mtctrains.com.
