Non-profit shared location plans move forward

Clatsop County non-profits looking to share space and cut costs are moving forward with plans to work together and seek grant funding.

In February, organizers called several meetings to gauge local interest - and got vigorous response from area groups.

"We have a great and diverse group of organizations that have agreed to participate," said organizer Scott Reuter, one of several area nonprofit officials who is helping to coordinate the effort.

The next step is a grant proposal to the Meyer Memorial Trust, which is accepting proposals for funding aimed at groups that want to share resources, such as office space and related infrastructure.

Peter Huhtala, executive director of the Astoria-based non-profit Columbia River Business Alliance, will write the grant proposal.

So far at least 20 area non-profits have expressed interest in collaborating.

Among them are Coast Rehabilitation Services, Clatsop CASA, the North Oregon Coast Symphony, the Astoria Sunday Market, and the White Water Institute.
