The Lewis and Clark National Park Association has made a leadership gift of $5,000 to Destination: The Pacific to help underwrite the heritage area study for the Columbia-Pacific National Heritage area.
"The Association joins Oregon State Parks and Recreation and other donors in seeing the value of the study and the potential of the National Heritage Area," said Patricia Roberts, Clatsop County Commissioner and DTP board member. "We value their partnership and applaud their leadership."
The DTP board is fully behind the campaign, with 100% of the board pledging a contribution for the study. DTP Board President Robert E. Andrew and Roberts are co-chairing the regional fundraising campaign.
To date over $20,000 has been raised. The goal for this phase of the fund raising is $50,000 and will be used to hire a firm to complete the initial scope of work.
In addition to the Lewis and Clark National Park Association, contributions have come from Pacific County Friends of Lewis and Clark, the City of Long Beach, Ilwaco and Long Beach Merchants Associations, The Snow Family Foundation, Seaside Chamber of Commerce, Lower Columbia Tourism Committee of Astoria-Warrenton Chamber, and individual contributions.
The study is expected to take up to two years to conduct and includes an extensive public input process. Total cost of the study is estimated at $275,000.
