Finnware building changes hands

Although Astoria’s "Finnware Building" recently changed hands, it’s business as usual in the region’s quintessential Scandinavian store.

"My husband and I owned it, but we sold it to Holly and Kevin McHone," said Darlene Bjornsgard, who, with her sister Dorothy Smith, owns Finnware. Located on Commercial, the shop features all things Scandinavian, including clothing, house décor and hand-crafted pottery and other items. It opened in 1987.

Bjornsgard and Smith plan to continue to operate Finnware, the sole occupant of the building.

The McHones, who own Holly McHone Jewelry, located down the street from Finnware, "are keeping things as they are for right now," said Holly, regarding the building. As for the future, "Anything’s possible," she added.
