Lucy Brook will end a 10-year run as owner and operator of Manzanita News & Espresso on June 1, when she turns over the reins to her daughter and son-in-law Starlight and Brian "Bunny" Frost, of Nehalem.
Brook became a partner in MN&E in February, 1996, and took over as sole owner June 3, 1996.
"It has been a very fulfilling 10 years," she said.
"I have enjoyed learning competency in the various aspects of running a successful coffee shop. It satisfies me to my core that so many people have enjoyed this time and space with me, that MN&E has been a community hub, a gathering place for locals and second-homers alike, that connections have been made, and community bonds strengthened."
Brook’s daughter has worked at the coffee shop for five-and-a-half years, "and knows all aspects of the business," she said.
"Her and Bunny’s young energy together will be excellent. When I tell people I’m selling, they look worried. Then, when I add, ‘to Star and Bunny,’ they smile big smiles and look relieved."
Frost, a chef, has spent the last few years working at the Terra Cotta Cafe, in Manzanita.
While she is eager for a rest, Brook plans to continue working for the Frosts one day a week, "so as not to be ‘dropped off the edge,’ so as to still earn a few dollars, and so they will not have to work seven days a week."
Manzanita News & Espresso is located at 500 Laneda Ave., in Manzanita, and is open daily, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
