Even if you’re not a Cubs’ fan, you can get a real taste of Windy City cuisine at Wayne’s Chicago Red Hots, newly opened at Scappoose Bay Marina just off U.S. 30 about two miles south of St. Helens.
Owner Randy Sanders features authentic Chicago hot dogs – with all the fixings – as well as an expanding menu of sandwiches. The hot dogs and most of the meats he uses come directly from Chicago.
"I always wanted a place where I could offer good food at working man prices," he says. The eatery is named for Sanders’ dad, Wayne.
The restaurant, which sits on picturesque Scappoose Bay, is decorated with Cubs’ memorabilia, along with other items Sanders’ has acquired over the years from his native Chicago, even including a photo of notorious gangster Al Capone. Two large televisions air all Cubs’ games. Sanders will even tune in a dreaded White Sox game – as long as it doesn’t conflict with a Cubbies’ broadcast.
A longtime professional drummer, Sanders hopes to begin offering live musical entertainment at the restaurant by mid-May.
Beginning May 7, Wayne’s Chicago Red Hots (503)-397-1170 expands its hours to 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and noon-8 p.m. Sunday.
