42nd Street Café Devises Win-Win for Restaurant and Community

Volume 1: Issue 2 - 04/01/2006

By CRBJ

On March 15, the Long Beach Visitors Association was the recipient of funds raised by patrons who were required to do nothing more than to dine at a certain local restaurant on a particular night.

During the dull and rainy winter months when most restaurants on the Peninsula close down much of their operations, the 42nd Street Café in Seaview, Washington is open every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. To lure locals in, proprietors Blaine and Cheri Walker donate 20 percent of proceeds from a designated evening each month to a selected organization.

Of that night in March, Long Beach Visitors Bureau Executive Director, Una Boyle, said it was a raving success.

“Not only was the place packed, but the Walker’s donated four $50 dinner certificates for a raffle. This caused so much enthusiasm that other diners spontaneously donated items on the spot for an impromptu auction,” she said.

42nd Street Café winter hours are Monday through Sunday from 8a.m.-2p.m. for breakfast and lunch; and open for dinner each night at 4:30p.m. Call the Walker’s at (360) 642-2323 if you would like them to consider your organization for one of the sponsored dinners.
